# Turn every potato and onion harvest into maximum value at Potato Europe 2026
Written by:
**Jouke van der Meer**
Every potato and onion grower and packer wants to turn every harvest into maximum value. But quality, labor and volume all seem to pull against each other. Pushing on one puts pressure on the rest.
Three pressures, all on the line at once:
That's exactly why growers and packers are looking for a way to improve all three at once. It's what keeps market share growing, protects reputation and secures the future of the business. [At PotatoEurope 2026,](https://www.potatoeurope.de/en/) we'll show you how leading growers and packers are already doing exactly that with Ellips True-AI.

## PotatoEurope 2026: five ways to upgrade your grading line
Potato Europe brings the potato and onion industry together in Springe (Germany). This year we're bringing five solutions to the field
Large or small, industry or farm, there's a solution here built for you. Grading washed potatoes for the industry, onions on their own dedicated line, seed or unwashed potatoes straight from the field, switching between potatoes and onions on one grading line, or pre-sorting stones and clods before they reach storage or grading. Our specialists will be there to walk through it with you.

### **Do you want inspiration on Potato grading from our customers?**
### When quality can't afford to slip
For premium markets, one bad batch can undo years of trust.
### **Wilhelm Weyers**
A German potato and onion wholesaler based in Weeze, was the first in the potato world to grade on internal quality, not just what shows on the skin. Their Elisam machine uses light transmission technology to look straight through each potato, catching internal defects that used to mean cutting one open to find. In a bad season, hand-sorting would have needed eight to ten people on the line. Reliable workers are only getting harder to find, and the machine now does that job on its own.
### When the labor just isn't there
** Skilled labor is getting harder to find, and harder to keep. **
### Pioneer Potatoes
A sixth-generation family farm in Washington's Skagit Valley, handling around 10,000 tons a year, cut its workforce by 50% with Elisam grading, now running its entire line with just 12 people. Processing speed climbed from 12 to 15 tons per hour, with 2 more lanes still in reserve to ramp up to at least 22 tons per hour when needed. Despite having less acreage than many of their neighbors, they deliver a high percentage of premium A-size potatoes to top retailers and expect labor savings alone to justify the investment within 4 to 5 years.
### When volume targets keep moving
Growth only counts if your grading line can actually keep up with it.
### **Wada Farms**
A leading grower-shipper based in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They first switched to an Elisam optical grader, then upgraded to Ellips True-AI. Within the first 30 days, they'd already hit the throughput target they'd set for year-end, going on to increase grading capacity by over 20% while cutting labor for manual sizing and sorting by 75%, surpassing their own ROI objectives in year one.
### **Do you also grow and pack onions?**
Whether that's on our dedicated Elisam onion grading machine, or combined with potatoes on CombiGrader, there's a solution built for it.
### Stourgarden
A third-generation UK onion packhouse, used to need 16 people to run its grading line, and still couldn't keep pace when fusarium showed up in a crop. Today the line runs with six people, capacity has doubled to 200 tons a day, and the labor bill is down by roughly 40%. Customer complaints tied to internal defects have dropped sharply too, and the team can now switch size bands and specs for different retailers in a few clicks instead of a lengthy manual reset.
Defects caught by True-AI: fusarium, misshapen, root tear and many more
